NYT, dogs and writing updates

I hope that you and yours are doing as well as possible during these completely surreal times. I am doing as well as I possibly could – we are safe in our comfortable home, and are socially isolating. As a profound introvert I have to admit that honestly I’ve been trainingfor this my entire life. But obviously the world is still a terrifying place, full of unknowns and uncertainties. If you had told me just a couple of weeks ago that this is what life looks like I would never have believed you, and yet…. here we are and all we can do is socially distance, do our best to stay healthy, and make the best of of the situation. I’m so grateful that my partner and I already work from home, and that in these uncertain times that I’m able to help dogs (and their people). My latest article ran this week in The New York Times. I hope that it and the training and vet experts I spoke with can offer some guidance and support during these unprecedented times that might make things a little bit easier for dogs, especially those living in apartments in bit cities. I spent over a decade living in NYC with dogs – I know how hard that can be on a good day, let alone in a crisis of this magnitude.

Looking for more dog content? I have a number of new articles at AKC, an article in the new print issue of Dogster Magazine (available now on newstands), and I was quoted in the new issue of Modern Dog giving some advice for trick training with senior dogs! Last week I did an interview with Narratively a storytelling publication that I’ve written for in the past – they wanted to talk to me about how I made the transition to making writing about dogs my career it really has been a dream come true for me and quite a journey over the past few years. If you found my site because of my LGBTQ+ focused work I haven’t left that work entirely behind! I’m thinking a lot about those who are forced to shelter in place with people who aren’t safe and supportive. In fact during these  surreal times I have been inspired and have a new fiction project called “Pandemic” that I am sharing on Patreon. “Virus and Pandemic, two queer punks finding their way in our increasingly apocalyptic world……” first installment of a new project is up!

Out of an abundance of caution I have closed sales of signed print books on my website. With social distancing I don’t think it’s a good idea to be going and standing in line at the post office. If you are looking for any of my books (THANK YOU!!!) I encourage you to buy from Amazon or from any indie stores that are still open and shipping books. If you are looking for ebooks – I sell Roving Pack and A Little Queermas Carol here, all my other books are available in ebook formats on Amazon.

My family and I are safe, and healthy and doing everything that we can to stay that way, and I hope that yours is too.

xoxo
